I recently stumbled upon one of Sun City Lincoln Hills' best kept secrets. The Lavender Hills Group is a social organization serving Lesbian, Gay and other interested residents here in Sun City for many years now. Their Group is 65 members strong and are always looking for new members. They have been meeting and socializing as an informal club in the community and are currently in the process of becoming a recognized club within the Sun City bylaws.
The Lavender Hills Group members love to get together for potluck dinners and meet monthly for breakfast at Awful Annie's, as shown in the first picture above. Within the membership there are several social subgroups: a Birthday Club, a Wine Tasting Group, a Dog Walking Group, a Pickle Ball Group and a Golf Group, just to name a few. They are busy in the Lincoln community at large in many ways. The group is looking forward to becoming more involved in community outreach once they become a recognized group within Lincoln Hills.
I had the privilege of meeting with three of the group members a few weekends ago. During our chat, they unanimously agreed that they have been made to feel welcome by the residents of Sun City Lincoln Hills. It was agreed that this is a really great place to live "in harmony" with others. The second picture shown above is of Reverend Jeri Murphy performing the wedding of a Lavender Hills couple, Robyn and Sam, on the terrace of the Sun City Orchard Creek Lodge in October, 2008.
One of the things that really struck me was how they, as a group, really support their members. They are family to each other and are there to offer a shoulder to lean on during life's many challenges.
