Coyotes and Lightning!

As you have probably noticed, I have linked several stories from the Lincoln News Messenger to our blog.  There are many residents in Sun City Lincoln Hills that are accomplished writers and photographers.  Occasionally Residents will post personal stories and pictures on the Lincoln News Messenger website.

I recently came across two different short stories.  The first is about a family of coyotes that hunt daily in a ravine near Sun City Lincoln Hills.  Usually the family of coyotes run as a pack and hunt at night.  One Resident was lucky enough to snap the picture posted above of a coyote trying to catch some breakfast.  The breakfast was a rabbit that was a little too quick for the coyote.

The second story I found was about the stormy night of wind, rain and lightning that happened last month.  Another local Resident of Lincoln Hills took out his camera and snapped beautiful pictures of the "light show".

You can click here to visit the Lincoln News Messenger website.  It is a wonderful way to read about the Lincoln Hills community and the city of Lincoln.

Lincoln Hills Home Tour!

Can you believe it? … Del Webb broke ground and began building homes in Sun City Lincoln Hills TEN YEARS AGO! – and only just completed the build-out of approximately 6800 homes about 2 ½ years ago.  Residents are so happy with our community that a big, four-day long celebration is being planned in September.  As the plans began to take form, it was quickly agreed that we need to raise some extra funds for making the anniversary party especially memorable.

First came the DESSERTS EXTRAVAGANZA!! in April.  Several individuals, as well as a few groups, prepared their dessert specialties--2 each: one for tasting and one for sale by silent auction.  I prepared my family’s favorite Pecan Pie and am proud to say the sample bites vanished pretty quickly.  Everybody had such a good time, tasting and socializing, and about $2,000 was raised in dessert sales alone!  (There was an live auction of donated items that raised significant funds, as well.)  The event was organized by wonderful volunteers.  In the first picture above you will see Deanna Hanks in the cowboy hat.  She co-Chaired the event, along with Susan Joyce.  That's me next to Deanna after an all-nighter of baking!

Next came the “First Ever Lincoln Hills HOME TOUR” held last month.  When the 10th Anniversary Committee expressed a desire to have a Home Tour, I could not stop my hand from going up.  Volunteering to organize this event seemed like a natural choice for me since, as a full time Realtor in Lincoln Hills I have seen plenty of examples of beautiful homes created by residents.  The variety is endless!  It was such a pleasure talking with many, many homeowners as the list of homes grew, the goal being to have a variety of sizes and décor styles to view.  Homeowners were very generous in volunteering their homes for the tour, and in the end were very pleased and complimented as the positive feedback came pouring in.

The smallest home on the tour was a Millpond at 1100 sq.ft., attractively furnished in antiques and complete with a park-like back yard.  Among the largest on the tour was a Santa Barbara that dazzled people with it’s elegance and truly creative use of faux painting, their extensive built-in bar as well as moving the fireplace to accommodate an especially wonderful entertainment built-in, not to mention a fabulous outdoor kitchen and breathtaking view.   I wrote the program with detailed descriptions in the hope of enticing people to buy multiple tickets in order to see them all (one ticket only gained admittance to 5 homes, and we had 24 to see, including a few with extensive garden railroad setups and other wonderful collections).  It worked!  People raved about the homes and went back for more!  This was a non-sponsored event, but Carolan Properties rose to the occasion to cover the rather costly printing expense.  In the end, well over $5,000 was raised toward our upcoming celebration! ☺

Above are just a few pictures, showing a dream kitchen remodel in a Marin, an outstanding wine cellar addition in a Napa, and the metallicized fireplace in that same, very modern Napa.  Also pictured above is me along with the two co-Chairs of the 10th Anniversary Committee Celebration, Joan Loague and Loretta Alley.  We’re next to a large, well stocked koi pond in the back yard of the Marin.  Click here to  see the 110 pictures taken by Patrick Vath and Jeff Andersen of the Sun City Lincoln Hills Photography Group.  There you will see many other beautiful shots taken in homes, including some of the many neighborhood volunteers who welcomed people into the homes.  You can also click here to see a slide show of all 110 "Best Of ..." images.  Please be aware that it may take some time to load, and it might go a bit slowly at first - - there are almost 100 megabytes of images posted, and those will take some time to download.  If that link does not work for you, or if it is painfully slow, this is another link that will take you to the album page.  On that page, you will see Patrick's overview description of the event and small thumbnails of the 110 posted images. To see a larger version of any image, just click on the thumbnail.  To see the largest possible version, click on the "+ All Sizes" link just above the enlarged image.  To download the image, click on the "Download This Large Size" link just above the largest size image.

What a fun and interesting commujnity!  I LOVE IT HERE! ☺

Fore!! Golf in Sun City Lincoln Hills!

One of the greatest things about Lincoln Hills (besides the residents) are the two eighteen hole championship golf courses!  Both of the courses have pristine golf layouts... and are offered at affordable prices.  The Lincoln Hills Golf Club began in 1999 as an 18-hole, Billy Casper/Greg Nash-designed golf course.  By the end of 2005 another 18-hole course was incorporated into the original course which created two 18-hole courses named "The Hills" and "The Orchard" Courses.  Over the years, Lincoln Hills has hosted several notable competitive events: 2003 LPGA Tour's Longs Drug Challenge and most recently the 2008 NCAA Ladies West Regional Golf Tournament.

Both "The Hills" and "The Orchard" courses are open to the public and both offer wonderful rates to residents and non-residents.  You can click here to see their latest coupons, which change monthly.  Additionally, the Lincoln Hills Golf Club offers 3 different types of memberships varying in price and benefits: the Prospector Membership (for Non-Residents), the Gold Rush Membership (for Lincoln Hills Residents) and the Summit Membership (for both Non-Residents and Lincoln Hills Residents).

The Lincoln Hills Golf Club website offers the convenience of reserving tee times online here and over the phone: 916.543.9200.  There is also a Pro Shop, a Driving Range, a Short Game Practice and even Lessons!

Lincoln Hills Italian Club!

'Benvenuti' means 'welcome' in Italian and it is a perfect word to describe the Lincoln Hills Italian Club!  Founded in 2006, this social club's primary purpose is to promote the Italian culture, acquaint it's members with other Italians and live life to the fullest.  Like most clubs in Lincoln Hills, the Italian Club charges only a nominal fee ($15, collected yearly) and meet once a month.  Each meeting is held at a different location, with each one being more fun than the next!  The variety of meetings held this year include: dinners, bbq's, golfing and even wine tasting!  We are pleased to have one of our co-workers listed as a 2009-2010 Italian Club Candidate, Larry Paparelli!  Congrats, Larry!

The pictures shown above are from the meeting held last Monday (June 8th).  50 members of the Lincoln Hills Italian Club spent the day and had lunch at the Naggiar Winery in Grass Valley, California.

You can click here to visit their website.  The Lincoln Hills Italian Club have a great website that has pictures, an event calendar and membership guidelines.
